Munira lead an MPs’ budget briefing and business listening event hosted by the Richmond Chamber of Commerce. Munira outlined how the budget was a missed opportunity to support local business and kickstart the post-Covid recovery.

Following the session, Munira Wilson said:

“The Budget was a missed opportunity and I am extremely worried about the impact on small businesses and business people in my constituency.”

“I heard directly from local businesses about their difficulties in accessing support schemes and I pledged to do whatever I can in Parliament to raise their plight and support them in any way.”

“I am particularly concerned about the Government withdrawing the business support schemes too quickly. Businesses are being asked to repay deferred VAT and interest on bounce back loans before many of them will have had a chance to fully reopen and rebuild their reserves.”

“There was, however, some good news from resilient and adaptable local businesses which are weathering the pandemic well.  It was great to hear from David Hawkins, Managing Director of Butterworth Labs, about the extension to their facility in Teddington. I look forward to visiting when conditions allow.”
