Just over two weeks ago, Munira wrote to the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, asking him to intervene in the expansion of the ULEZ scheme. The Mayor has now responded.

The new ULEZ scheme is due to be implemented on the 25th of October and would mean the inclusion of the Townmead Recycling Centre and Mortlake Crematorium in the expanded Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). Constituents may have to pay £12.50 to access both the recycling centre and crematorium, depending on their vehicle.

Munira’s full letter to the Mayor of London can be found here.

Deputy Mayor Heidi Alexander has responded with the disappointing news that Townmead Recycling Centre and Mortlake Crematorium will be included within the zone stating that “it is important to maintain a clear, consistent and understandable boundary for the public”.

Ms Alexander also pointed out that Richmond Upon Thames is part of the West London Waste Authority and residents can use Space Waye Re-use and Recycling Centre in Hounslow if they wish to avoid the charge to access Townmead.
