South Western Railways plan to cut train services from busy stations across my constituency by up to 50% in some cases. The need to cut services is being driven by their contract with the Department for Transport.

On the floor of the House of Commons I urged the Transport Minister, Chris Heaton-Harris, to intervene by reviewing the contract between the Department for Transport and SWR, in order to stop the proposed cuts. There was some suggestion that the Government would consider rejecting proposals. However, the Minister also made clear that it would be dependent on the results of SWR’s consultation. Following the exchange, my Liberal Democrat colleagues and I wrote to the minister requesting a meeting to push the matter further.
