Today in Parliament, Munira urged Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, to fix the issues in the IT system that is being used to organise vaccines.

This follows reports of problems in the IT system, Pinnacle, of it running slowly and causing hold ups in some GP surgeries in rolling out the vaccines.

For a video of Munira’s question and Matt Hancock’s answer, see below:

Following this exchange, Munira said:

“I am very disappointed by Matt Hancock’s answer. He did not seem to acknowledge there were any issues with the IT system being used to organise vaccines, despite there being numerous reports. A local GP vaccination hub I visited recently also confirmed their IT system was being slow.

We all want this vaccine to be rolled out smoothly so we can get back to normality. However, the Government not even acknowledging where there are issues when challenged constructively, impedes progress in making the system work better.

I will continue to constructively raise issues in the rollout of the vaccine so that we can get as many people vaccinated as quickly as possible. In particular, I have been calling for a 24/7 vaccination programme in every high street so that those who are in hard-to-reach groups or those who find the hubs hard to reach can access these life-saving jabs.”
