Today in the Chamber, Munira brought domiciliary care staff to the attention of vaccines Minister Nadhim Zahawi MP in a bid to improve the rate at which staff are being vaccinated.

She highlighted a survey from the UK Homecare Association showing that only one in three staff, who do the vital work of taking care of elderly and vulnerable people in their own homes, were yet to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

Whilst the capacity for vaccination appointments is increasing day by day, it is crucial that those at high risk of contracting coronavirus are offered protection and are supported to take up that offer as swiftly as possible.

Following the exchange, Munira said:

“Care staff are extremely vulnerable to catching Coronavirus owing to the nature of their work.

They have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to ensure that our loved ones are looked after – we must ensure that we do the same for them and prioritise their safety.”
