Today in the House of Commons, Munira questioned the effectiveness of the Coronavirus Act. This comes after reports that over 200 people were incorrectly charged under the Act.
Munira brought to attention that because so many people have been incorrectly charged, the Government have risked people calling the law into disrepute. This comes at a time when the trust of the public is imperative to coming together to move forward out of the ongoing crisis.
Munira instead suggested that the Government take up the ‘Protect Everyone’ bill, as proposed by Liberty Human Rights group and others.
