Munira questioned the Schools Minister on providing funding to help schools cover the significant costs they have incurred in making themselves Covid-secure.

Local schools have been struggling with the costs of ensuring they’re Covid-secure whilst also losing much of their additional income they would get from lettings or fundraising. The local council also has limited additional funds for bailouts to help.

After the exchange, Munira said:

“Today the Minister had the same old answer: speak to your Local Authority or Educational Skills Funding Agency. However, there is not a limitless budget on Covid spending and schools need sustainable methods of income.

It is key that our children receive a safe education, but schools cannot bear the burden of Covid costs alone. The Government must step up and help schools.”
