Twickenham MP Munira Wilson has written to the CEO of Heathrow Airport to relay residents’ concerns about increased noise from Heathrow air traffic, and ask what measures Heathrow will take to limit noise pollution.
“My inbox is overflowing with messages from residents who are suffering the effects of relentless aircraft noise,” said Munira. “I’m asking Heathrow to take these concerns seriously, and to be clear on what actions it will take to address them.”
In her letter, Munira has specifically asked Heathrow about the running of easterly operations, which has been almost constant for at least the last three weeks – resulting in constant noise pollution, with no respite, for many overflown communities. Recent days have also seen a significant increase in flights after 2300.
Munira has asked Heathrow what extra measures it is taking both immediately to attempt to limit the noise pollution affecting constituents under departure flight paths and to prevent late runners, and in the long term to ensure Easterly Alternation can be introduced without further delay.

The letter follows other actions Munira has taken on behalf of residents concerned about Heathrow noise and pollution. These include calling on the Government to reinstate the independent noise ombudsman and make aircraft noise a statutory nuisance; demanding far more robust regulations on night flights; challenging the Government’s airspace modernisation plans; and continuing to voice Liberal Democrat opposition to a 3rd runway at Heathrow.
