With Andy Burnham becoming Prime Minister, Munira has urged him to drop current Government plans to expand Heathrow Airport.
This comes following the Government’s announcement of a consultation on the Heathrow Expansion National Policy Statement, intended to enable expansion and set requirements for any planning application.
However, Munira Wilson MP has written to the new Prime Minister citing the Government’s published consultation, arguing that it fails to follow the evidence – and could exacerbate regional inequalities.
Munira Wilson MP said, “The Government’s own documents reveal the truth. Heathrow expansion will not lead to the economic growth promised, and will have a huge impact on our ability to meet our rightly ambitious climate targets”.
The Heathrow Expansion Appraisal Report, published by the Government as part of the consultation, suggests a possible scheme would have a Net Present Value (NPV) of between -£23.4bn and -£62.5bn.
