What is this about?

Heathrow airport’s plans to build a third runway are unacceptable for a number of reasons.

The many additional flights would be harmful to the environment at a time when the government is committed to reducing carbon emissions.

In particular, the health of Munira’s Twickenham constituents would be put at increased risk, as they live under the flight path.

On 27 February, the Court of Appeal ruled the government had not followed its own climate change policies meaning the expansion plans cannot go ahead in their current form.

What is Munira doing?

Challenging Boris Johnson

Munira publicly called out the prime Minister for reneging on his promise to lie in front of the bulldozers to stop construction of the runway – as reported by Sky, the BBC and The Times.

Munira Wilson, Liberal Democrat MP for the southwest London constituency of Twickenham, asked the PM if he would “prove his credential on climate change, make good on his promise of lying down in front of the bulldozers, or – far more simply – just cancel the third runway?”

Working in parliament

Munira became vice-chair to the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Heathrow Expansion and Regional Connectivity.

Munira tabled a motion to an opposition day debate, urging MPs to back cancelling the third runway.
