What’s the problem?

South Western Railway is the local train service that constituents use – and it’s terrible.

It’s always running late. In December 2019, it ran a reduced service due to 30 days of strikes following a dispute between SWR and the union.

What is Munira doing?

Took action on strikes

Munira campaigned to end the 30-day strikes and then fought to get adequate compensation for constituents who were disrupted.

In her first week as an MP, Munira met with RMT to discuss their issues on why the strikes were taking place.

Called for SWR to be stripped of the franchise

Munira co-signed a letter in the Evening Standard calling for suburban services to be handed to Transport for London (TFL).

Munira frequently raises the issue in Parliament – and referred to it in her maiden speech.

Joined the All Party Parliamentary Group for South Western Railway

Munira is vice-chair of the APPG and speaks up for constituents on issues such as the occasion railway staff accidentally locked travellers into Twickenham station.
